Learning Log #5 (Sept 18th - 22nd)

Once again we started our days with a Devotional (Friend article, and a prayer), and Sign Language, followed by our Literature study of Little House in the Big Woods.  This week we learned about literary elements.  We learned about what a setting is, a plot, characters, writing style, themes, and vocabulary.  After learning about what each of those meant and writing them in our notebooks, we were able to have discussions after each chapter using those elements.  We talked about the theme of each chapter, settings, plot, etc. It made the chapters a little more interesting.

On Tuesdays we had our Piano lessons (KEIRA, GARRETT, and LIBBY), and every day was spent practicing piano.

LIBBY had a full week of Soccer this week, with practice on Monday, and games on Tuesday and Saturday.  She worked hard, and enjoys being goalie.

We met with other homeschool friends on Thursday for our co-op for two hours.  The first hour was PE, spent outside playing recess games such as base tag, red rover, sharks and minnows, etc.  The second hour the older kids had a visit from a lady from the Humane Society who brought her dog and taught them how to care for and protect pets.  William's class, the second hour, did story dance.

Randomly throughout the week, KEIRA, GARRETT, LIBBY, and WILLIAM found time to start Writing.  Either in their journals, or their writing books I got them.

This week WILLIAM got to start his course of Lego Education.  He built two types of fans and figured out that the larger pinwheel worked better than the smaller one.  He thought it was awesome!
KEIRA, LIBBY, and WILLIAM found a lot of time this week to practice their Art, using Art Hub for Kids on YouTube.  They really enjoy that channel, and are learning good techniques.

Math
KEIRA had another week of logic training.  We played a long, fun game of Harry Potter Clue, played Dice War, and filled out some logic puzzles.
GARRETT also worked on logic training this week. He played Harry Potter Clue with us, Dice War, and filled out his own logc puzzle worksheet.
LIBBY played games one-on-one with me this week.  Mainly Dice War, and then we figured out some story problems using Bedtime Math.
WILLIAM practiced applying base ten concepts on ABCya.com, by playing Base Ten Bingo.  He also helped figure out some story problems with Bedtime Math.

Reading
KEIRA picked up an interest in Wayside Stories this week, and read from that book every day.
GARRETT is almost done with his Jedi Academy series, so he continued to read from that book nearly every day.  He also picked up some picture books we got at the library from time to time.
LIBBY read books to herself, to her brother, did Reading Eggs lessons, and listened to Indian in the Cupboard at bedtime.
WILLIAM played letter matching games, did lessons from Reading Eggs, and read beginner books.

Another great week under our belt.
