Learning Log #37 (Apr 29th - May 3rd)

This week's Science lesson was a practical one.  We are getting ready to plant a garden, and this year the kids get their own garden plot, so we planned out their gardens.  This included talk about what to plant, when to plant it, how to get plants to grow the best, and how to manage weeds from the beginning.  We will plant in a few weeks.

We did a few more History lessons this week, all about Christopher Columbus.  We read chapters out of a book about him, and his first journey to the Americas.

KEIRA
Math: This week Keira read about Paul Erdos and his life.  She learned that he was so heavily invested in mathematics that he couldn't make his own food.  She also completed a bunch of practice sheets, to generally review basic math skills.
ELA: Keira flew threw Fablehaven this week.  After a year of tough reading she has discovered that thick books like Fablehaven are easy to get through, and she's enjoying it.  She also did lots of typing lessons this week.
Violin: Keira's got a recital coming up, so she's been practicing a few songs that she'll be performing.  She's almost got them down.  She also had a lesson with her class.
Piano: This is the week before the recital, so the only thing that was practiced was her Sonata that she'll be performing.  Her teacher said she's doing exceptionally well.
Entrep: She finished some baby blankets she's been working on to give away to an organization where you can donate blankets.  We've yet to deliver them, though.

GARRETT
Math: Garrett did math out of Childcraft's Mathemagic.  The focus was on problem solving, math magic tricks, and riddles.
ELA: He's getting into Harry Potter now, and enjoying it.  He also did some typing lessons, and a grammar lesson from The Good and The Beautiful.
LEGO: After finally watching The Lego Movie 2 this week, he bought himself a character from the movie.  It's a 3 in 1, so he's had fun rearranging it this week.
Piano: With his recital coming up next week, his only focus was Minuet #1.  He is choppy, but his teacher is pleased with his precision, so he's ok with it.

LIBBY
Math: Libby's math was full of Life of Fred.  She read lots of chapters, and did some end of book reviews.
ELA: She's really been enjoying her Goddess Girls book.  She read that a lot this week.  She also typed out some journal entries, practiced handwriting, and did a few lessons from The Good and The Beautiful.
Photography: This week Libby played around with the video feature on her phone.
Piano: Libby really focused on her song, "Do Re Mi" this week, to get ready for the recital.  She's made huge progress this week on the song!

WILLIAM
Math: William also did lots of Life of Fred this week, and review sheets.  In addition to that he did some lessons from Math Seeds.
ELA: This week Will did a lot of Reading Eggs lessons, and typing lessons.
LEGO: Will did a bunch of random playing this week.  Building houses, cars, and playing games with the characters.
ASL: We watched another episode of Signing Time this week.  The words we learned were about the seasons.
