A Tour of Our Classroom

This is where the magic happens!  ;)
(I took this picture before we got chairs for the desks)

This is our "verse work" board.  On one side of the board there is a scripture mastery scripture written in English, and on the other it's translated into Latin.  Every Monday there will be a new scripture from the scripture mastery list, starting with the Old Testament.  Each morning they copy down both verses, and are quizzed on them on every Friday.  This does 4 things.  It teaches them a new scripture, it gets them familiar with a new language, it helps them practice their handwriting, and helps them practice new spelling words.  On Fridays we have a spelling test, a vocab test, and they pass off verbally the scripture they've memorized, first in English and then in Latin.

This is our class tree.  Each child has their own branch, which is a place for them to display their work.  Sitting on each branch is an owl with their name on it.  I've loved having this, and am proud of the way it turned out, too!

This owl border is going to be our timeline.  It will include anything we learn about, including world events, inventions, great historical figures, art, and events from the scriptures.  It will also include time periods when certain books took place. The goal is to give my kids perspective and see how all these events connect together.   I want them to grow up knowing that religion and world events aren't separate events; that they all fit in working together.

These are the drawers where the kids keep their personal school supplies.
