It looks like I updated on Garrett a day too soon! Garrett's mouth piece was bugging him the last week or so enough that it hurt for him to put his headgear on, so I took him to the orthodontist today to see what was up. It turns out that his mouth piece was loose on one side. The Dr evaluated where he is and said that he's done! He was going to leave the mouth piece in for a few more months just to make sure it was set, but because it was falling out he declared Garrett done! So right then and there he removed the mouth piece, and just like that Garrett's done with his treatment!!!! Whoot, whoot! :D Tonight we're celebrating by eating popcorn! He hasn't been able to eat it in 8 months! ;)
I really can't believe he's done, just like that! The orthodontist said that his mouth is almost twice as wide as it should be, because it will rebound in the next month as it settles into place. That puts us on track to get the new Paletometer at the beginning of January.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who made his new smile possible!!!! We think of you and your generous help often and feel blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives who would help us, so. Just last week Garrett was working on his "l" with Mrs Hart and we both marveled how much easier it is for his tongue to make that maneuver. When we were working on it 9 months ago his tongue was all squished in his mouth when he tried to put it in the right place. We are so grateful for the help this has been for his speech already. Now that the orthodontic work is done we can make even more progress on speech! Yea!!!
