Learning Log 21 (Jan 30th - Feb 3rd)

We had a lot of fun this week for school!

We do a devotional every day to start off our school day that usually consists of a prayer, and a spiritual lesson, followed by learning our ASL lesson.  This week we combined the two, and started learning The Lord's Prayer.  Our goal is to know the whole thing by next week, and we're off to a good start.

For Science this week we watched some episodes of Street Genius and learned some interesting things!  Such as, a full tank of gasoline doesn't explode as well as an empty tank because of the reaction of oxygen in the tank.  Fun science!

We also learned how to make homemade bread and what ingredients are needed.  Yummy science!

For PE this week we went to a free Gymnastics class.  The kids had a lot of fun meeting new friends and learning some gymnastics moves on the equipment.  The trampoline into the foam pit was their favorite, of course.

A major fun event this week was our field trip to the fire station!  The kids got a full tour, with lots of information about how a fire station runs, how to put on a fireman's suit, what each truck does, water and siren demonstrations, what paramedics do, and some history of the early fire wagons.  Very fun and interesting trip!  The kids and I loved it!

MATH:
Keira's math consisted of chapters in her Life of Fred textbook, and some reading from Sir Cumference books.  The first Sir Cumference book was Sir Cumference and the Vikings Map.  After she read that book she played some computer games that used coordinates to find things.  The second book we read was Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone book.  After reading that book she followed some instructions to create 3D shapes out of paper.

Garrett's math was Life of Fred, and learning about coordinates.  He learned how to plot things on a grid after reading Sir Cumference and the Vikings Map, and then he played some games on the computer to find things on a grid.  He also played Battleship to further this learning.

Libby also learned how to plot things on a grid after reading Sir Cumference and the Vikings Map, and played some games finding things on a grid.  Besides that she also did lessons on Math Seeds.

READING
Keira got a new Equestria Girl's book in the mail this week, so she enjoyed reading from that.  She also enjoyed some other My Little Pony graphic novels she got from the library.

Garrett read from scriptures, from Jedi Academy, and some other Star Wars books this week.

Libby spent time reading Leveled Reader books this week, as well as her books from the library, and lessons from Reading Eggs.

For Christmas the kids got Kiwi Crates, and their monthly crate arrived on Thursday, so they were busy creating things Thursday afternoon.

William's Koala Crate came with items to create ice paint, and postcards to paint on.

Garrett's Tinker Crate was about Automatrons, so after learning about what Automatrons are and the history of them, he followed some instructions and built his own!

Keira's Doodle Crate was a fortune teller machine.  It came with a calligraphy pen, instructions on how to create your own calligraphy, and materials and instructions to build her own fortune teller machine.

In their spare time the kids ate up art lessons found on YouTube!  It was perfect!  They learned all sorts of techniques in their drawings that they've been using on their own now to create more art.

We had another field trip of sorts this week out to check out our new library.  We always love trips to the library, but this one was extra cool, because on our way there we saw a bald eagle!!!!  Very cool! What a fun-filled, educational week we had this week!  :)
