Learning Log #8 (Oct 9th - 13th)

I was still without a computer this week, so we had to get creative with some things, and go without other things in our lessons.  Here's how it turned out:

This week for Science we learned about bees vs wasps, after William got stung by a bee. We learned what the difference is, which bees do what in a colony, and how bees make honey. We also learned a little about Atoms on a different day, just KEIRA and GARRETT; about how big they are, and how the arrangement of the same type of atoms can make a diamond so much stronger than the lead of a pencil.

ELA (English Language Arts - let's go with this instead of "reading")
All four kids learned and passed off a poem this week:

This was an exciting week for our family, because we finished our Little House in the Big Woods book!  :)  While I was reading the last few chapters, the kids did a project on Minecraft; they all built what they envisioned the property we've been reading about to look like.

KEIRA's:

GARRETT's:

LIBBY's:

WILLIAM mostly fiddled around, and didn't actually make a house.  That's ok.  He listened well.

We spent one day at the library for a few hours collecting books and reading them, and then doing math and writing there, as well.  The kids wrote in their journals about their experiences at the zoo a few weeks back.

In addition to their reading at the library...
KEIRA read "I Survived the Titanic", and her scriptures.
GARRETT started a new book set called, "Hey Jack", in addition to scriptures.
LIBBY read lots of picture books from the library, in addition to her scriptures.
WILLIAM read his scriptures and picture books from the library that he picked out and word games on the ipad.

Math
KEIRA read a Sir Cumference book about graphs this week, and made a bar graph for conference words used.  She also did some logic training games (including Chess & Set), and did some times tables review.
GARRETT did a lot of logic training this week.  He played Chess, did a number puzzle called "Equato", and did another number puzzle that involves a number line, adding positives and negatives.  He also reviewed times tables as well.

LIBBY played a game involving number recognition up to 100, called "Kakooma".  She also did a number puzzle called, "Equato", played "Set", and played a game that involves finding the sums of numbers on a card.
WILLIAM also played Set with us.  He's pretty good for a 5 year old!  He also did some number recognition up to 20 in different forms, and played a game about adding up to 10, called, "Tenframe".

LIBBY played her last game of the season, and had team pictures.  This picture pretty much sums up her personality:

I was still without a computer most of the week, so their art program wasn't available.  Instead, for Art this week, both LIBBY and KEIRA did Art Hub for Kids on YouTube, and also did art with our co-op.

GARRETT learned more about robots for his LEGO robotics course, and WILLIAM played around with his own LEGOs this week, while we went without a computer, yet another week.

And that about sums up our week.  It was tricky and frustrating going another week without a computer, but I finally have one back, so life's getting simpler again.  All in all, the week turned out ok.
