Learning Log #9 (Oct 16th - 20th)

This week was fall break, so only a few days were devoted to learning, and not as much was covered.

The kids were excited for Science this week, because we started doing lessons from the curriculum we did all last year, Mystery Science.  We started the unit called, "Invisible Forces", and did lesson 1, which was about pushing and pulling.  The kids made "hoppers" out of cardboard, and experimented with different ways they could make it jump higher.

ELA (English Language Arts)
We finished our study of Little House in the Big Woods, by reviewing the book, talking about the themes in the book, and filling out a worksheet about the story.
KEIRA finished reading "I Survived the Titanic", started reading "I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916", and read her scriptures. On a road trip during the week we started listening to "Peter and the Star Catchers", too.
GARRETT continued reading from the new book set he got, called, "Hey Jack", and played Mystery Word Town on the ipad, in addition to reading scriptures. On a road trip during the week we started listening to "Peter and the Star Catchers", too.
LIBBY read some more from the picture books we got from the library, in addition to her scriptures. On a road trip during the week we started listening to "Peter and the Star Catchers", too.
WILLIAM read his scriptures, picture books from the library that he picked out, and word games on the ipad. On a road trip during the week we started listening to "Peter and the Star Catchers", too.

Math
KEIRA stretched her muscles by doing some logic puzzles that deal with positive and negative numbers.
GARRETT did the same logic puzzles that deal with positive and negative numbers.
LIBBY did a few number puzzles called, "Equato", and "Tenframe" with William.
WILLIAM played Mystery Math on the ipad, and did "Tenframe" with Libby.

We didn't make it to Piano lessons this week due to illness, but the kids all managed to get practice in every day.
