Learning Log #24 (Jan 27th - 31st)

KEIRA
Math - Math was sparse this week.  She did a few lessons from Life of Fred, and that's about it.
ELA - This week Keira read from The Story of the Constitution, and wrote a paper, and worked out of her creative writing notebook.
Science - Keira got her Eureka Crate this week, so she was pretty excited to spend some time building a pinball machine.
Tech - No Minecraft this week.  We are fizzling on this one.  It turns out this was adding more to her plate than she can handle, so it's the first one left out.
Music - She continued to practice well, making progress, and had lessons this week, in both piano and violin.

In other news, Keira started a weekly Ice Skating club this week with her friends Sadie, and Mckenzie.  That is, that she started going to it this week, not that she was the one to start it.  She's excited to get to do that every week.  She also started basketball through Jr Jazz.
Something else she has been working on is a cross stitch. The one pictured below is the one she has been working on for awhile now, and finished it this week.

GARRETT
Math - Garrett worked only from Life of Fred for math this week.  He did a few chapters, and made good progress.
ELA - He did a lesson from The Good & The Beautiful grammar book this week.  He also read from several different books; Jedi Quest, Calvin & Hobbes, and Rush Revere.
Science - Garrett works with LEGOs all the time building things . On weeks that he doesn't do a lesson, he makes good use of his time creating things with LEGOs.
Tech - As usual, he spent a good amount of time in his Tynker programming lessons this week.  He really enjoys it.
Music - Practice, practice, practice, and lessons.  That's the way every week goes.

LIBBY
Math - There wasn't a lot of math going on at our house this week.  Some weeks are better than others.  She did a lesson from Life of Fred.
ELA - Lots of ELA this week, though.  She did a lesson from The Good & The Beautiful, a typing lesson, and worked on poetry.  She also read from Loud Boy, and Felicity.
Social Studies - This week she learned more about Japan.  She created a fish sock, which is a popular decoration for a children's festival in Japan.
Tech - No Minecraft this week.  She's not really interested in this anymore, either.  It turned out to be a flop for us.
Music - Practice for piano, as usual, and lessons this week.  Same as every week.

WILLIAM
Math - For math this week, Will did a lesson from Math Seeds, and played a comparison game with dice.  It was a slow math week...
ELA - Will also did a lesson from The Good & The Beautiful, learning about verbs.  He also did lessons from Reading Eggs, and read a big chapter book (his FIRST!), Little Bear.
Social Studies - He finished up his Russia crate, and started up on his Brazil Crate.  He learned about some animals found there, and made a craft of a sloth.
Tech - There's always lots of building going on around here, even when there's no crate to build.  Keva blocks, LEGOs, Magformers... that was what happened around here this week.
Portuguese - We learned lots of new words this week, from around the kitchen, using cards from our Talkbox subscription. Cup, bowl, plate, spoon, fork, knife, silverware, napkin, paper towel, chair, table, freezer, fridge, and kitchen sink.

One thing that we do, and don't report on most weeks, is History.  This week we learned about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War; Enlightened thinkers who contributed their ideas about freedom, and The French and Indian War.

We had a good day of lessons one day, and decided to take a break and go to The Treehouse Museum.  It's a great place to have fun, while still learning things.  :)
