Learning Log #33 (May 1st - 5th)

This week for History we learned about Socrates.  We learned a bit about his life, and discussed some of his teachings.  We learned about how his life fit into Greek History, and concluded that he was a good man.

For Science this week we did another Mystery Science lesson; this week's lesson was about seed dispersal, and how seeds from one plant can end up half way across the world.  They had a lot of fun after the lesson making their own seeds and dropping them from up high and seeing which kinds of seeds fly the furthest.  It was a fun alternative to flying airplanes.

Reading
KEIRA was interested in reading to her little brother, William, this week, so she spent a few days reading him Mercer Meyer and Bernstein Bears.  On the other days she did lessons from Reading Express.
GARRETT, shockingly, mixed things up this week.  I suggested reading some easier material to help him practice reading more fluidly (getting easy wins in helps boost the confidence and fuel the desire to read more).  So Garrett read from our Usborne books on the days he didn't read from Jedi Academy.
LIBBY is loving the Usborne book set we bought, so she read from those a lot this week.

Math
KEIRA zoomed through Life of Fred chapters most days this week, and played The Allowance Game with her siblings on the day she didn't do it.
GARRETT chose to do lessons from Math Seeds this week, in addition to playing The Allowance Game with his siblings.
LIBBY also chose to do Math Seeds this week, and played The Allowance Game too.

In addition to those subjects:

  • KEIRA did her last project for Snap Circuits
  • GARRETT did his last project for Lego Robotics
  • LIBBY played Soccer with her Soccer team
  • We went to the Zoo as a family and saw some awesome North American wildlife
Garrett's last Lego project was creating a sorting dump truck.
When you push a button it dumps out it's contents according to size.

Keira's Snap Circuit project lit up when it felt vibrations.

Libby, reading one of the Usborne books.

Wonderful weather let us do some of our school outside.
