Learning Log #24 (Feb 19th - 23rd)

The kids helped me with a home project for Presidents Day. We decided to create a library in our music room, so they helped me move all the bookshelves and books in the entire house into one room, and then we had the fun task of organizing the books!  I'm not being sarcastic.  It was fun!!  :D

Our co-op took a field trip to the fire station this week!  That was fun!  We learned all about what fire fighters and EMTs do, watched them put on gear, listened to a heart beat on a monitor, and saw all the tools they use to put out fires.

Math
KEIRA is done learning her basic math functions, so this week was spent refining some of those skills that she doesn't know super well.  She did that by completing math puzzles, playing games, and practicing facts online on abcya.com.
GARRETT worked on refining his skills of double-digit subtraction this week by completing direct operation problems, story problems, and playing games.
LIBBY worked all week on double-digit addition lessons, completing direct operation problems.
WILLIAM worked on defining shapes, finding them in every day objects around the house, and doing some lessons on Math Seeds.

ELA (English Language Arts)
KEIRA read all of I Survived the Hindenburg, and started Matilda this week.
GARRETT finished his Jedi Academy series, and then started Wayside Stories, and decided after two chapters that it wasn't for him.  He also worked many hours on his own project, or creating his own comic book.  He's very excited about it, and has written many pages worth of story.
LIBBY went to her first book club meeting for the book, Kaya, where they talked about the story, created a notebook to keep track of their activities, made a teepee, colored pictures of horses, and made a bracelet by weaving yarn on a loom.  On the other days, she listened as I read the book to her.
WILLIAM started reading a Little Leveled book set.  There are 75 books in the set, and when he's done he'll get to pick out a Lego set, so he read 3 books a day this week.

For Art this week we learned about Greek art.  We talked about patterns they used, looked at examples of the pottery they have found from Greece, and created our own pottery drawings.  The kids also spent some time on Art Hub for Kids, drawing.

Other things we did this week, include:
- memorizing a scripture (Mosiah 2:17)
- piano practice and lessons
- orchestra (for Keira)

- Keira, Garrett, and Libby learned more about geography by playing Scrambled States of America, a board game

It was a good week.
