Within the last year my health has deteriorated rapidly and I was diagnosed with 2 chronic illnesses. Since the weather was all over the place this week, it effected my health and made it harder to do some of our typical lessons. So, instead of our anatomy lessons for Science this week, we did a lesson on the barometer, weather, and how it effects people's health. We watched some YouTube channels that explain it well, and looked at some of my MRIs to look at what health problems of mine are effected by the barometer.
KEIRA
Math: Keira is studying math with her co-op most weeks, so she has mostly been reading from The Fallacy Detective and doing the worksheets in there, and discussing it with her co-op class. On days when she wasn't doing that, she played Chess, Mastermind, and Battleship with her siblings. She also watched a Ted talk about math. The man talked about perspective, patterns, and comprehension when it comes to understanding math.
ELA: She's been reading A Wrinkle in Time this week, for her co-op class. She also looked through library books that her siblings got from the library this week, and practiced her handwriting.
Tech: Last week she learned how to make a baby blanket, so this week she got started on a second blanket.
Piano: She's still working on the same songs that she was last week. The songs she has right now are all difficult enough to last the whole month. She's making good progress, though. She had lessons on Wednesday and got pointers on how to improve more.
Violin: She's enjoying the songs she's been given for violin this semester. She listens to them or practices them every day, and goes to lessons on Tuesdays.
GARRETT
Math: Garrett's still working on finishing his division unit. On days when he wasn't doing that, he played Chess, Mastermind, and Battleship with his siblings. He also watched a Ted talk about math. The man talked about perspective, patterns, and comprehension when it comes to understanding math.
ELA: He's been reading the books he got from the library this week. Mostly it's been Daniel Boone; aka Loud Boy, and Garfield graphic novels. He also did a lesson from The Good and The Beautiful this week.
Tech:He worked on transforming his LEGO city that he's created into a different kind of world, with castles and dungeons. He also worked on some past creations that had broken and needed fixing.
Piano: He's in the same boat as his sister; they both have difficult pieces that they're working on from last week, and will continue to work on them for at least a month. He had lessons and has made good progress.
LIBBY
Math: We changed course a little bit this week, and read from the Childcraft, Mathemagic book. We read a few chapters on numbers and interesting facts about numbers 1-5. On days when she wasn't doing that, she played Chess, Mastermind, and Battleship with her siblings. She also watched a Ted talk about math. The man talked about perspective, patterns, and comprehension when it comes to understanding math.
ELA: We spent a good amount of time at the library this week, and Libby picked out a stack of books to take home. She read from them throughout the week, mainly about India. She did a little presentation on India for her co-op group, and made them Mango Lassi. She also did a few lessons from The Good and The Beautiful.
Tech: We missed doing our lesson for photography this week due to health, so Libby kept playing around with the camera and taking different angles of different rooms and finding ways to make the pictures more interesting.
Piano: Libby wasn't loving piano this week. Learning the notes are difficult for her, and her song was mostly sight-reading, so she put up a fight about it. But in the end the teacher was able to help her enjoy it, and they picked out some more enjoyable music for next week. She also colored in a color by number picture that uses piano notes to help her learn them. She liked that part.
WILLIAM
Math: Will learned how to play Chess and Mastermind this week! He isn't quite old enough for Mastermind, but he got the hang of Chess and loved playing it over and over again! He also did a lesson from Math Seeds.
ELA: Will enjoyed going to the library this week, and picked out a stack of books. He had a good time reading from Morris the Moose Goes to School, and thought Morris was a funny character. He also did a typing lesson this week.
Tech: He made some LEGO creations at co-op this week, but he also helped Garrett recreate the LEGO city into a castle and dungeon theme. He's very good at making new creations!
ASL: We learned signs that have to do with cleaning a house by watching Signing Time. This gave us the opportunity to see the signs being used over and over again and even put them to a song.
