For Science this week we did a review of all the things we have learned this year, up to this point. We played a game involving picking out popsicle sticks that had vocab on there and getting points for correct answers, and for every incorrect answer the teacher (me) got a point. I was hoping that they remembered most of it, but they blew me away! In the end, the score was 34 to 1! They know a lot of anatomy and physiology involving bones, muscles, and the respiratory system.
KEIRA
Math: Keira's math involved a lot of reading this week, so her ELA kind of overlaps her math. She read The Fallacy Detective, Math and Magicland, Beginner's Guide to Constructing the Universe, and did geometry experiments in her co-op class.
ELA: She read all the books above, and also finished A Wrinkle In Time. She also did a lot of creative writing pages one day.
Tech: Sewing lessons were cancelled this week due to illness, but Keira spent hours and hours making teddy bears for some girls in our neighborhood.
Piano: She is still working on the same songs that she has been working on all month. Making good progress, and had a lesson on Wednesday.
Violin: Lessons and practice as usual this week. She alternates between listening and playing the songs she's supposed to be working on, and it helps her understand exactly how it's supposed to be played.
GARRETT
Math: Garrett did his last division worksheet this week, called Division Deduction. Moving on he read and figured out the problems in Grapes of Math. We're working on seeing patterns and shortcuts in math.
ELA: He read library books that he got from the library last week, and wrote in his journal about predictions for the future, following some creative writing prompts.
Tech: He was working on putting a LEGO van back together this week, but he didn't get very far before he, too, got sick.
Piano: He practiced the songs he's been working on for the last month, but then he got sick the day of lessons, so he wasn't able to do lessons.
LIBBY
Math: Libby didn't get too many lessons in this week before getting sick with the flu, but she did get to the last lesson in our Life of Fred book, and was able to do the end-of-book review (pictured below). She did pretty great!
ELA: She read books from Reading Rainbow, and Wocket in My Pocket this week. No other lessons, before she got sick.
Tech: Once again we weren't able to do a photography lesson this week, since Libby got sick before our lessons. She did have a friend over before she got sick, and they practiced taking pictures with each other.
Piano: Thankfully she was able to have lessons this week, before she got sick. She did another color-by-number for music notes to learn the notes, and is working on a few songs this week. One that she wrote, one by ear, and one by sight reading.
| Too sick to function, but not too sick to be dressed up. |
WILLIAM
Math: We finished our Life of Fred, Butterflys book this week, and did an end of book review. He took a test of subtraction and addition, and did pretty great. Then we started on the next book (Life of Fred; Cats).
ELA: Will finished reading Morris the Moose (picture below), and read some other books we got from the library last week. He also did a lesson on Reading Eggs.
Tech: Will always plays LEGOs at some point during the week, but in addition to that this week, he played with blocks and Magformers while I read to him. He made a fortress out of blocks (and showed me his invention for doors his cars can get out of) and made a vehicle out if Magformers that can lift off the ground and turn into a flying vehicle (all pictured below).
ASL: Before we could get to our ASL lesson this week, the flu hit our household and we weren't able to get that done. As always, though, we practiced signing sentences here and there throughout the week.
