There always seems to be at least one round of sickness during the winter. Let's hope we hit our round and it's behind us. Last week we were able to get back into school and get some good things done, as well as party to celebrate Valentine's Day. Here's what we did:
We continued our Anatomy and Physiology unit by learning about the Respiratory System. One day we learned about the parts of the heart and how it works, and another day we learned about the blood and what exactly it does for our bodies. It was a good Science week.
WILLIAM
Math: William did several chapters of Life of Fred; Cats this week. He answered questions, and learned about angles, patterns, and the commutative property.
ELA: Will did several Reading Eggs lessons, and lots of small pictures books, such as "I Can Read With My Eyes Wide Shut".
ASL: He watched an episode of Signing Time, and played along during the singing part.
Tech: He picked out a new LEGO set this week, and put one part of it together. He decided to get a space shuttle, that also turns into a moon rover and space station. He decided to put together the space station first, and learned about why a space station is needed and what they do there.

LIBBY
Math: Libby also did lessons out of Life of Fred; Cats. She learned about the commutative property, reviewed angles, patterns, and learned about ordinal versus cardinal numbers are.
ELA: She wrote in her journal about the dance she went to (pictured below), and got on a Shel Silverstein kick. She read lots and lot of poems by Shel Silverstein.
Piano: She's been doing more color by notes worksheets to learn her notes, and they seem to be working. She's also been learning Gavotte.
Photography: Libby's camera stopped working this week. So our lessons this week revolved around trying to get it to work again. Learning about the things that can go wrong with it, and the proper way to take care of the battery and lens.
GARRETT
Math: Garrett is starting a new math program that builds a bigger base in math knowledge. He started out by reading Multiplying Menace and talking about using multiplication in every day life. Another day he read How Much is a Million and was able to visualize just how big the numbers one million, one billion, and one trillion are. He also did activities out of the Childcraft's Mathemagic book.
ELA: He read out of his Henry Huggins book, and had a chapter discussion about it in co-op. He also did a typing lesson.
Piano: Garrett's still working on the same songs he has been working on for weeks. He's doing a great job advancing in these difficult, long songs. I'll take a video of him playing them when he's done learning them.
Tech: This week for LEGOs he pulled out his old LEGO Robotics kit and explored that for many days. He built many robots and programmed them to detect movement, and make sounds, like an alarm.
KEIRA
Math and ELA: Keira's math and ELA are kind of blurring together these days. For math she's been reading out of Math and Magic in Wonderland, and The Fallacy Detective. Both of these books require a lot of reading, but also a lot of problem solving and worksheets built in. It's a great way to cover both reading and math. She also did a typing lesson for ELA and read from a fiction book called, Pie.
Piano: She's also still working on the songs she's been working on for weeks. She did pass off one of her songs and start a new one. I'll have her play it for me and post it next week.
Violin: She listened to and played songs from her Suzuki Violin book, after having a lesson this week. She's sounding better and better!
Entrepreneur: She's been thinking a lot about what she would like to sell this year, from the things she's learned to make. There's a community entrepreneur fair for kids coming up this April, so we talked a lot about which things she's learned how to make she'd like to sell. She hasn't quite decided. She worked more on stuffed animals this week, giving some that she made to some girls in our neighborhood as a surprise. They loved them. :)
EXTRAS:
For co-op this week, Libby made a heart craft out of wood, nails, and string. She learned how to use a hammer and nails, and how to string it just right. She also had a chance to make a Valentine's box and hand out Valentines to her friends.

We also had a really fun chance to have a Valentine's dance with our co-op. We had a dance leader who taught the kids some fun upbeat songs, and then taught slow-dancing etiquette. The kids got to dance with other kids in the co-op, and also together as a family. It was a huge hit!
