Learning Log #32 (Mar 25th - 29th)

This week we had "teacher prep" for several days, which changed our schedule a bit.  Since it was so nice finally, we went on lots of walks, and on another day we spent the entire day at the library playing chess, checkers, and exploring lots of different kinds of books.  On the days that I was prepping more lessons the kids watched educational shows, and played a lot of games in place of our typical subjects.  It was a nice change of pace, while still getting a lot out of the week.


For Science we did a combination of a lot things, including the nature walks.  We also prepped for chicks, and then brought 10 chicks home to raise.



KEIRA
Math: She finished studying math out of Math and Magic in Wonderland this week.  She also played chess, checkers, yahtzee, and several other math and logic games.
ELA:  This was a week of a lot of random reading from library books at the library, and when we got home.  She also continued reading from the Ramona series. We also played a game with Story Cubes and came up with an epic story together.
Sewing: Sewing lessons had to be cancelled due to a missing foot pedal, but she continued to work on an old cross-stitch she started awhile ago.
Piano: Lessons and practice as usual this week.  She's still working on the same pieces.  They're difficult and take a long time to pass off, but she's enjoying them.  A 3-piece Sonata, and Clare de Lune, are just some of the songs she's working on.
Violin: Violin lessons on Tuesday, and practiced or listened to her songs every day.  She has some longer songs that she's been enjoying now.




GARRETT
Math: Lots of math and logic games this week, as well as math picture books.  Chess, checkers, Mastermind, and Ano's Multiplying Jar, to name a few.
ELA: He continued to read from Henry and Beazus, and discussed the chapter with his co-op.  He also read out of lots of picture books, graphic novels, and many other random books at the library. We also played a game with Story Cubes and came up with an epic story together.
Piano: Still working away at his songs.  He practices every day, and had lessons on Wednesday.
LEGOs: Garrett checked out a LEGO creations book from the library and played around with some of those creations in the book.



LIBBY
Math: HLots of different variety of math this week, since our schedule change.  She read math picture books, and played lots of games.  Chess, checkers, Mastermind, and Yahtzee, to name a few.
ELA: She read and discussed a chapter from Molly Saves the Day with her co-op class.  This in addition to the many books she read at the library and checked out to read throughout the week. We also played a game with Story Cubes and came up with an epic story together.
Piano: Libby continued working on an original piece this week.  She added chords to her left hand and has practiced putting it together.  She's also doing theory work, learning more about notes.
Photography: This was a great week to practice what she's learned.  She took her camera with us on our walks and practiced taking pictures of interesting things she saw in nature.




WILLIAM
Math: He mixed it up this week, too.  He learned how to play checkers, played chess with his siblings, and read from many math chapter books.
ELA: He found lots of books to read while at the library, and checked out a bunch to bring home, too.  We also played a game with Story Cubes and came up with an epic story together.
LEGOs: Will took his space shuttle apart and made a moon rover.
ASL: We watched an episode of Signing Time this week.  This week's words were all about colors.  He practiced with me, and we sang along with our signs to the songs on the show.
